I usually don't run player trains of more than 3 engines and 60 cars (and of those, no more than 15 or so are different). So how do you stop MSTS from crashing "frequently" and thus enjoy the game (as I have done for the past 9 years)? While one or more of the above items may help (I've tried them all), my main technique is to be conservative with activities. I have the same frequency of crashes with my 2010 screamer with 12 gigs of system RAM and 1 gig of video RAM that I had with my old 2004 rig with 2 gigs of system RAM and 256 meg of video RAM.

(How can using drivers that may be a year or two out of date in 2012 impact a program written over 11 years ago?)ĩ) Get a new computer.

Doing so will not stop crashes.Ĩ) Update your drivers. Doing so has its benefits but will not stop crashes.ħ) Use Mini Routes (which I use and highly recommend for other reasons). exe which often cause crashes.Ħ) Run Train Store. It may catch a lot of other problems (though in my recent experience, I find that almost all routes have already been run through Route Riter by the time they are released) but it can't fix the bugs in the MSTS. Doing so will not stop crashes (or even help, based on my experience).ĥ) Run Route Riter. Though MSTS Bin has greatly improved the game, it does not stop crashes.Ĥ) Add the "zero entry" to the soundconfig.sys file (in my opinion, one of the biggest myths ever). (From my experience, I don't think it even reduces them).ģ) Use MSTS Bin. You are simply re-installing the same buggy program as before.Ģ) Add the memory switch. Here are some of the big ones we frequently see:ġ) Re-install the program. Many of the suggested "fixes" for these sort of MSTS crashes which we see posted time and time again are, quite often, completely mythical. The code is over a decade old and has always contained bugs which have never been fixed. complete freeze without an error message)? You can't. How do you stop MSTS from crashing in the way that you describe (i.e. However, as someone who has run MSTS heavily for almost 9 years, allow me to state:

Okay, I don't mean to be rude in any way nor dismissive of the efforts of those who are trying to help others with problems.
